We are asked about once a week to reproduce a cake from a photograph, and we usually say no. This is why, and it is not snobbery.
The picture is not the cake
Most of the cakes that go round online are structural sculpture in fondant. They are made to be photographed and they taste, at best, fine. If that is what you want there are people who do it well and we will give you their number.
What to send instead
Tell us the occasion, how many people, and one flavour you know they love. That is enough. The best cakes that leave here started as three sentences, not as a mood board.
When we say yes
When the picture is a colour, a shape or a feeling rather than a copy of somebody else’s work. Send it. We will tell you honestly whether we can do it in buttercream.
